Elizabeth Banks was born Elizabeth Maresal Mitchell on February 10, 1974
in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. After completing high school in 1992, she
went on to the University of Pennsylvania where she graduated in 1996.
Two years later, Elizabeth completed a course in the American Conservatory
Theater in San Francisco. She then moved to New York where she found
small parts in movies that included "Surrender Dorothy" (1998) and "Shaft"
(2000).
Elizabeth changed her name to Elizabeth Banks because there was already an
established actress by the name of Elizabeth Mitchell. She gradually
advanced to roles in more significant films, including Spiderman (2002),
Seabiscuit (2003), and Spiderman 2 (2004) (in the role of Betty Brant.)
Other movie credits came in the 40-Year-Old Virgin, the Disney movie,
Invincible, (2006) and the horror flick, Slither (2006). The latter film
provided her with a standout role as Starla Grant, the wife of a man
infested by space aliens.
Elizabeth has also appeared on the small screen, including the season five
Finale of the NBC sitcom, Scrubs. She played the role of a urologist (Dr.
Kim Briggs), her performance sufficiently impressive to earn her a
recurring guest role in the series. She has also appeared in Sex and the
City, Third Watch, and All My Children.
