Kate Winslet was born on October 5, 1975 in Reading, England, the
daughter of stage actors, and the granddaughter of the operators of the
Reading Repertory Theatre. By age eleven, Kate was enrolled in acting
lessons and contracted her first job in a commercial. She later
attended a performing arts school which led to British television drama
and guest appearances in a variety of television series. She
interspersed this with stage productions playing Wendy in "Peter Pan"
and Geraldine in "What the Butler Saw," among other. Her first feature
film was "Heavenly Creatures" in 1994 in the starring role and for which
the critics were unanimously impressed. She followed this with
historical pictures because of her "period looks," including "Sense and
Sensibility" (1995), "Hamlet" (1996), and "Jude" (1996).
The next year brought her most significant role as Rose in "Titanic"
(1997), alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, and assisted by the theme music
"My Heart Will Go On." For this she received a Best
Actress Oscar nomination. Kate has continued to perform in movies from
drama to comedy and has even done voice work for animated films. Kate
continues to perform to critical acclaim in significant films exposing
