Kylie Minogue - Singer
Kylie Minogue was born May 28, 1968 (a Gemini), in Melbourne, Australia.
(Fifteen years later, in the same month, a singing, acting, modeling star
would also be born in
Melbourne,
Holly Valance.)
Trained in piano, tap, and jazz, by age eleven, Kylie began to act in an
Australian television drama, "Skyways." This led to a lead role in "The
Henderson Kids," a children's series and later to a daily soap opera,
"Neighbours," which helped start the career of fellow-Australian
Natalie Imbruglia, and which simultaneously aired in Britain. In the same
mold as fellow countryman, Olivia Newton-John, it is in the singing
department that Kylie has excelled. Despite having few hits in North
America, she is one of the biggest selling female popular singers in
Europe and Australia, and her image has taken her to the covers of
popular magazines around the globe. Originally, Kylie had not intended
to be a singer, but a charity performance version of Little Eva's
"Loco-Motion" was submitted to a local record company. The company had
no great expectations about the music, only the fact that they would be
distributing the song of a popular television star. To everyone's
surprise, the Kylie had her first number one hit in July 1987. For some
time, Kylie remained on the back burner of Mushroom Records until they
ultimately gave her a quickly composed song, once again with no great
expectations. The result was "I Should Be So Lucky" became her second
number one Australian hit and her first hit in England. Finally the
company decided to pay her due attention and produced an album. The
young singer began to get hits in the U.S. and subsequent hits in the
U.K., Australia and Europe.
