Mandy Moore was born April 10, 1984 in Nashua, New Hampshire. A
hazel-eyed, natural blonde, she was born Amanda Leigh Moore to a pilot
father and a journalist mother. When Mandy was still young, the family
moved to Orlando, Florida (hometown of budding child star,
Kirsten Storms). At a little summer musical camp, Mandy discovered
her love for singing at the age of nine, and it wasn't long before she
was regularly singing the national anthem at major teams sports events
and even for a Celebrity Tennis Tournament that included Chris Evert.
After studying voice, Mandy tried out for stage productions in local
theatres, her first role in "South Pacific," followed soon after by
leading roles in "Guys and Dolls" and "Bye Bye Birdie."
Mandy went to New York to study theatre during the day and perform in
the Catskill resorts by moonlight. Mandy made commercials, tried out
for television pilots and animation voice-overs. She expanded her
opportunities by modeling in teen magazines, but it wasn't long before
her voice captured the interest of music executives, and she signed with
Sony Music and toured with the Backstreet Boys. Her first single,
"Candy," reached half a million sales, leading to her debut album, "So
Real," in 1999. She also appeared in a small-budget film, "A Walk to
Remember," that was a minor box-office success. Her first major role
was as a cheerleader in "The Princess Diaries." She has continued
singing, acting, and has become a spokesperson for Neutrogena cosmetics
and has modeled for the Blue Asphalt Clothing Line. She awaits the one
big role or recording contract that will vault her to the top of the
heap.
