Petra Nemcova was born in the Czech Republic on June 24, 1979.
Discovered on the streets of her homeland, she was signed for modeling
shoots, and soon proved to be of the supermodel class. The five-foot
ten-inch slender Petra is athletic and addicted to dancing. "I can dance
for four or five hours nonstop without even drinking water. It's a
beautiful, beautiful thing," she says. The brown-eyed brown-haired
Petra appeared briefly in the 2001 French film "Absolument Fabuleux"
("Absolutely Fabulous"). Petra has been a favorite of the Sports
Illustrated Swimsuit issues, starting in 2002 and repeated the following
year.
Petra has appeared on the pages of Harper's Bazaar and Elle, and has
worked for major companies like Max Factor and Cartier. Petra hit the
world news in December 2004, when the disastrous Asian mega-tsunami
struck. While on vacation in the area along with her boyfriend, she
watched as their beach hut at a Thailand resort was washed away.
Suffering a broken pelvis and internal injuries, Petra clung to a tree
for eight hours until rescue arrived. Her boyfriend was not so lucky
and has never been found. Petra agreed to pose from her hospital bed to
help the fundraising efforts for tsunami relief. Petra is a true
survivor and superstar, and one day we hope to see her life on film.
