Stacy Ann Ferguson was born March 27, 1975 in Hacienda Heights,
California, with Mexican and Native American roots. Encouraged by her
parents to become involved in the entertainment industry, she began at
an early age as the voice of Sally Brown, the young sister of Charlie
Brown in 1983. She also appeared in commercials and eventually achieved
a spot in a pilot for Kids Incorporated which also starred Jennifer
Love Hewitt.
Stacy sang backup on the show until 1989. After a brief hiatus, she
teamed up with Stephanie Ridel (born May 17, 1973) and Renee Sandstrom
(born February 15, 1974) to form the band, Wild Orchid. Their first
album was released in 1996 (Wild Orchid) and their second Oxygen more
than a year later (1998), when they became spokeswomen for Guess
jeans. (Many celebrities were chosen by Guess in the capacity as
spokeswomen or like Josie Maran
becoming featured jeans girls for advertising campaigns.) Wild
Orchid's song, "Declaration," was featured in an episode of Beverley
Hills, 90210. Slowly, the group faded, and Stacy was adrift until a few
years later in 2003 when she was invited to join the Black Eyed Peas. It
wasn't until their third album, Elephunk, with Stacy adopting the stage
name, Fergie, that the band really took off. The five-foot 2-inch
dynamite performer had a period of struggling with drug addiction that
caused her to lose a great deal of weight, but she battled back and won
the war, and is heading towards a solo career.
